Curricula and Training Materials

The NCWWI Leadership Academies provide supervisors and managers with opportunities to become skilled in leading change, fostering collaborations, implementing results-oriented decisions, and leading people. Academy graduates across the country are pioneering positive changes in their agencies and strengthening child welfare program effectiveness to support the success of children, youth, and families. This online and in-person curriculum, along with the implementation guides, are now available!

Leadership Academy for Middle Managers

AdobeStock 172876339The LAMM involves a variety of learning components, including in-person training, that all work together to prepare mid-level managers to effectively implement sustainable system change. Evaluation results show that LAMM participants significantly increased application of leadership behaviors, including making informed decisions to position their organizations for success, giving staff more autonomy and professional development opportunities, increasing collaborative and consensus-building efforts, and implementing innovative practices. It can be downloaded, customized, and delivered by agency trainers. There are two versions of the residential training, a 5-day curriculum and a 3-day curriculum (below).

Leadership Academy for Supervisors

AdobeStock 208611661The LAS is a free online leadership academy for experienced child welfare supervisors (recommend minimum of one-year of experience). The 6 self-directed online modules take 21 hours to complete and include two methods to enhance learning transfer - a personal learning plan to develop leadership skills and a change initiative to contribute to a systems change within your child welfare program. Evaluation results show that LAS participants increased application of leadership behaviors, including setting priorities and managing resources, encouraging collaborative and inclusive units, utilizing more collaborative and consensus-building efforts, and adapting to changes implemented. All supervisors are welcome to complete the online modules on their own time and at their own pace. To implement the LAS we recommending reviewing the implementation guide.
